Cornea and External Disease
The cornea is the clear window in the front of the eye. It serves to both transmit and focus light from the outside world onto the retina so that a clear image may be seen. Injury, infection or disease may cause the cornea to become cloudy, decreasing the vision significantly. Vision clarity may be restored through medical treatment, or a corneal transplant may be required in certain conditions.
Dr. Gilbert, who completed his cornea fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of the Harvard Medical School, is the corneal surgeon in our practice. He is experienced in corneal transplantation and in the medical surgical management and treatment of corneal disease.
