Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have astigmatism and never had any luck with contacts in the past. Are there any new contact lenses that might now work for me?
A: Yes, there is a breakthrough technology in both soft- toric and hybrid contact lens designs.

Q: Does it really matter what contact solution I use?
A: Not all solutions are equally effective at killing germs. There have been significant advances in contact lens disinfection. We will always recommend the best solution based on the individual need and contact lens material.

Q: I’ve had refractive surgery. Can I wear contacts, if necessary?
A: Yes, if you need vision correction after having refractive surgery we will evaluate which contact lenses will provide the best optics and eye health for you.

Q: I just had an eye exam. Why do I need a separate contact lens exam or fitting?
A: The best vision, comfort, and eye health are only achieved when contact lenses fit your cornea properly. A contact lens fitting is required to adjust for your specific eye measurements, corneal curvature, pupil size, and tear film evaluation.

Q: I need reading glasses all the time. Do bifocal contact lenses really work?
A: Yes, they do. Advancements in technology have allowed us to customize bifocal contact lenses for our patients based on the individual’s visual needs. Very specific measurements and evaluations will determine which optical design will work best for you.

Q: Are your prices competitive to on-line retailers?
A: Yes. In fact, many times our prices are less expensive than online retailers. Major manufacturers offer practitioners exclusive offers and rebates, which we pass on to our patients to save you even more money.

Q: Do you fit the new hybrid contact lenses?
A: Yes, we fit hybrid contact lenses. These lenses have many applications and can help meet with a variety of patients’ needs. We were among one of the very first practices in the country to fit this new technology.

Q: Do contact lenses protect my eyes from UV radiation?
A: Many contact lenses help protect the cornea and eye from the harmful effects of UV radiation. However, UV rated contact lenses that can assist with blocking rays are not a substitute for UV-absorbing sunglasses. You should continue using UV absorbing eyewear.

Q: I’ve had little success wearing contact lenses in the past due to discomfort. Would it still be possible for me to wear contacts?
A: Possibly, yes. We are often successful in fitting contact lenses for patients who have previously been unsuccessful in wearing them. We have experience in fitting the most complicated prescriptions and corneal shapes. We are also familiar with the best lenses and technology.

We will be happy to explore all options to help you see better and give you the lifestyle you want.

Instructions for Contact Lens Wear

  1. Before handling contact lenses, always wash your hands with a non-cold cream or moisturizing soap. Dry hands thoroughly.
  2. Keep fingernails short and clean to prevent abrading the cornea.
  3. Apply makeup after inserting contact lenses.
  4. Use hairsprays or other aerosols before inserting contact lenses.
  5. Do not shower with contact lenses on. Do not swim or use hot tubs with contact lenses on. Parasites found in water can infect the eye and potentially cause loss of vision.
  6. Never rinse contact lenses with water of any kind.
  7. Never wet contact lenses with saliva.
  8. Carefully and regularly clean contact lenses, as directed by your eye care professional. If recommended, rub the contact lenses with fingers for 4-5 seconds on each side, and rinse thoroughly before soaking lenses overnight in sufficient multi-purpose solution to completely cover the lens.
  9. Store lenses in the proper lens storage case and replace the case at a minimum of every three months. Clean the case after each use, and keep it open and dry between cleanings.
  10. Only fresh solution should be used to clean and store contact lenses. Never re-use old solution. Contact lens solution must be changed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, even if the lenses are not used daily.
  11. Always follow the recommended contact lens replacement schedule prescribed by your eye care professional.
  12. Never intentionally sleep with contact lenses on, unless you have lenses especially designed and prescribed for that purpose.
  13. Always have a pair of eyeglasses available with your current prescription. This is important in case a problem with your contact lenses develops.
  14. If you have pain, light sensitivity, decrease in vision or redness, call our office immediately for instructions.
Contact lens evaluation is required on a yearly basis with your eye care professional.
